Evening Standard: Hundreds of patients miss out on fast treatment in cancer blunder
A news story regarding the recent issue of two week referrals to Imperial not being processed correctly. Around 900 patient referrals have been identified as not being processed appropriately and GPs are now checking all of these referrals to identify next steps.
The piece includes the following quote from Dr Michelle Drage, CEO of Londonwide LMCs: ‘It’s a big deal when a doctor decides to make a two-week referral and you’d expect patients would make enquiries [if they don’t hear anything about the appointment], but people don’t always think like that.’
Dr Drage added: ‘This highlights the fact hospital systems are not always user or patient friendly and raises questions about the efficiency of the systems in place. These systems are still failing patients and now GPs are being asked to clean up the mess.’
