Londonwide LMCs lights the path for developing consortia
Londonwide LMCs will today issue its unique guide to all London practices and developing consortia. Lighting the Path, forms part of an evolving series from Londonwide LMCs designed to support developing consortia through the complexities of establishing commissioning consortia.
The document urges developing consortia to focus on functions not structures, avoid recreating PCTs, challenge established models of commissioning and approach the task in hand with a fresh perspective, guided by GP knowledge of both patients needs and the behaviours of our suppliers. The capital's hospitals and foundation trusts. Londonwide LMCs has produced it with the aim of easing the transition to GP commissioning.
Dr Michelle Drage, chief executive of Londonwide LMCs, says: “GP Commissioning is the key to better care for our patients and we must carefully support it through this transitional period. This document has been designed to provide practices, and GPs forming consortia, with the practical information they need to get commissioning off the ground, as well as showing the way to achieve this through the spirit and strength of UK General Practice. It covers a broad spectrum of issues, including guidance on functions, elections, training, staffing, and contains essential messages on managing the risks and opportunities that come with the responsibility for the healthcare budget.”
Dr Drage adds: “We hope those on the ground find this first instalment of Londonwide LMCs commissioning support helpful as they use it to shape their developing consortia.”
