Clarification of Extension of Swine Flu Vaccination Programme to Under 5s and Carers

Please see the following extract from today's DH letter to GPs:

"We are currently working with the BMA and NHS organisations to agree exactly how this will take place, and I will provide you with a further update as soon as we have one. We expect that, once negotiations are complete, GP practices will be able to begin vaccination of children over six months and under five as soon as they finish vaccinating their patients in the priority groups."

Clearly the media have jumped the gun on this issue. You are not required to extend the vaccination programme until such time that the current priority groups have been covered, extended supplies have been made available, and contractual arrangements firmed up with the BMA.

In the meantime, you may find our latest poster of use at your front desks.
