Health and Care Bill

The Health and Care Bill is the first major health legislation since the Health and Social Care Act 2012. Londonwide LMCs has significant concern that not giving prominence to safety in any assessment of clinical service provision or service structure is unacceptable.

GP Data for Planning and Research update

NHS Digital will not be collecting GP patient data until three tests are met, including the option for patients to remove data retrospectively.

Covid-19 updates

PCN member practices have until 28 July to opt-in to delivering Covid-19 booster jabs. NHS England have also withdrawn the Covid-19 SOP for general practice.

Face coverings in healthcare settings

Public Health England has advised that patient face coverings are still required despite Monday’s change in the law.

Registering patients without documents

Practices should register patients for general medical services and Covid-19 vaccinations, regardless of immigration status or ability to provide proof of address or ID.

NHS at 73

To mark the NHS’ anniversary earlier this month we produced a video thanking people working in general practice for their contribution over such a difficult period..

Patient legal letters regarding face coverings

We are aware that some practices have received letters from solicitors’ firms, asking for patients to be compensated for being made to wear masks.

LMC elections

Elections are taking place in Bexley, Ealing, Greenwich, Merton and Redbridge. If you are a GP in one of these areas please cast your vote by 12:00pm on Tuesday 27 July 2021.

Remember to use BEAM to LMC to highlight the pressure you are under

Our BEAM to LMC mobile app, which enables you to tell us about the pressures you are under from commissioners and others, is proving popular. Make sure you check the app for push notifications.

Media and public affairs round-up

On 14 July, Dr Michelle Drage, our CEO, was quoted in a Guardian article on abuse of practice staff. The article also used anonymous examples passed to us by practices. On 14 and 13 July, Michelle was quoted in Pulse and GPOnline about the risk of relaxing mask wearing requirements in practices. On 9 July Michelle spoke to GPOnline about London practices and their PCNs’ problems recruiting to ARRS roles.

We continue to be very active in promoting the interests of London GPs and practice staff on TwitterFacebook and LinkedIn. If you have an example of general practice doing something well which could make a news story please get in touch. We also support practices that are approached with media requests. You can find details here.
