Earlier this month the BMA and NHS England agreed temporary contractual changes intended to release general practice workforce capacity to assist in the Covid-19 vaccination programme, among other guidance changes.

MP engagement, Reviews and Inquiries

We have met with MPs, councillors and the Met Police to raise capacity and patient abuse issues. We are also responding to several Independent Reviews and Parliamentary Inquiries looking at aspects of general practice.

Adding overseas vaccinations to patient records

Government guidance now tells patients they can book appointments at certain vaccination centres to update their records with vaccinations received abroad.

Conference of England LMCs round-up

The Conference saw a number of contributions from our LMC members and passed motions on issues including face-to-face access, increased core funding and the Covid vaccination programme.

Dr Michelle Drage’s Christmas and New Year message

Our CEO thanks everyone for their hard work in what has been a very difficult year for GPs and practice teams across London.

Covid-19 antiviral pilots

The Government announced this month that thousands of the UK’s most vulnerable people will be among the first in the world to access a new antiviral treatment for Covid-19, Molnupiravir.

Workforce survey extended

We have extended the closing date of our workforce survey to 17:00 on Friday 17 December, in recognition of the current substantial demands on practices. Please take 10 minutes to complete it if a representative of your practice has yet to do so.

Remember to use BEAM to LMC to highlight the pressure you are under

Our BEAM to LMC mobile app, which enables you to tell us about the pressures you are under from commissioners and others, is proving popular. Make sure you check the app for push notifications.

Media and public affairs round-up

On 2 December we briefed the HSJ and The Guardian on how GPs are going to handle the Omicron variant and the capacity available in general practice. On 2 December we also briefed The Observer on vaccine hesitancy and capacity.

On 16 December Dr Michelle Drage, our CEO was quoted in the Independent on the reprioritising of GP services in response to the growth of the Omicron variant.

And on 26 November Michelle was quoted in GPOnline's coverage of the LMC Conference debate on negotiating a new core contractand Dr Lisa Harrod-Rothwell, our Deputy CEO was quoted in Pulse’s coverage of the same debate.

We continue to be very active in promoting the interests of London GPs and practice staff on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. If you have an example of general practice doing something well which could make a news story please get in touch. We also support practices that are approached with media requests. You can find details here.
