CQC seeks general practice input on assessments and ratings

  • Latest news

They are consulting on proposals to improve their framework and guidance, and change how they assess making judgements and awards ratings for health and care services.

The aim of these changes is for the CQC to make their assessment approach clearer, simpler, and more trusted, through collaboration and co-design with people who deliver and use the services. They also aim to address the concerns raised in the external reviews of the CQC’s current ways of working, from Dr Penny Dash, Professor Sir Mike Richards, and the Care Provider Alliance.

Proposed assessment changes include reintroducing rating characteristics, replacing quality statements with assessment questions, and strengthening the role of professional judgement.

So, if you want to see a simpler and clearer CQC assessment process then please take this opportunity to become involved in helping to create it by completing the consultation, which is open to everyone until 5pm on 11 December 2025.

More information and the link to the consultation are here.
