  • Division between justice and health “cannot stand” [25/7].
  • Sir Michael Marmot and Dame Hazel Genn argue in Legal Futures that the long-standing divide between the justice and health systems is harmful to public well-being. Many health issues stem from social problems—like poor housing, debt, and unemployment—that are legal in nature. When unresolved, these issues burden GPs and worsen health inequalities. They call for a strategic, joined-up approach, including health-justice partnerships, to address the social causes of illness and improve population health.

  • Dash review: seven considerations for local NHS leaders [23/7].
  • Penny Dash’s review is a bold and welcome step toward improving patient safety in England, but implementing its recommendations carries risks that must be carefully managed. This blog shares seven key considerations for leaders of NHS organisations:
    • Don’t alienate staff and patient leaders
    • Adopt a proactive, holistic approach to different areas of quality
    • Back this up with resources for improvement
    • Anticipate future challenges to improve quality
    • Decluttering as a proactive improvement strategy
    • Develop management systems to support local accountability
    • Invest in inspiring and equipping staff to deliver change
  • Shaping better policy through real life experiences of work and health [21/7].
  • This blog highlights how real-life experiences of people with health conditions or disabilities can inform better work and health policies. It emphasises the importance of listening to individuals’ stories to understand the barriers they face in employment, such as lack of support, stigma, and inflexible workplaces. By grounding policy recommendations in lived experience, the Health Foundation aims to create more empathetic, effective, and inclusive solutions for navigating work and health challenges.

Think tank: Resolution Foundation [24/7].

  • This report focuses on improving employment opportunities for disabled people in the UK. While much policy attention has been on benefit reform and individual employment support, this report shifts the focus to employers and how they can be incentivised to hire and retain disabled workers.

Think tank: Policy WISE [24/7].

  • This report proactively engages the public in actions to boost health and wellbeing for the short and long term. The campaign targets people aged 50+ and asks them to ‘sign up’ and commit to a month of small, daily actions under nutrition, hydration, social and cognitive stimulation, and physical activity.

Think tank: HEPI [21/7].

  • This HEPI report aims to understand students’ experiences of menstruation education and the day-to day impact of menstrual cycles and periods on students’ higher education studies.

  • Organisational anxiety: what does taking a relational approach mean in practice? [24/7].
  • The blog explores how NHS leaders can manage rising organisational anxiety by adopting a relational approach—focusing on presence, empathy, and genuine connection. It argues that building trust and listening deeply helps teams feel supported and better equipped to handle uncertainty and pressure.
  • Same cycle – different bike? [22/7].
  • This blog highlights how the NHS is revisiting strategic commissioning with a renewed focus on population health, as outlined in the 2025 ICB model blueprint. While similar to past approaches like World Class Commissioning, today’s context—marked by rising demand, health inequalities, and structural changes—requires stronger public health leadership, better data use, and more collaborative, prevention-focused strategies.
