The importance of celebrating London general practice

  • Guest blog

Dr Lisa Harrod-Rothwell, our CEO, reflects on some of the great work by London's GP practices and the LMCs who represent them, seen at our 2026 awards event.

Earlier this month (Thursday 5 February) nearly 200 representatives from LMCs, practices across London and key allies such as MPs, press, commissioners and local government and pharmacy representatives came together in Parliament for the second London General Practice Awards, hosted by Health Select Committee member and London MP Ben Coleman MP (Chelsea and Fulham).

The atmosphere was electric and positive as we celebrated the achievements of London GPs, practices, patients and allies, and made new connections around a shared, aligned way of thinking. The awards event was an opportunity to talk to MPs, peers, journalists and other opinion formers about the challenges facing GPs and practice teams at the moment, and to secure support and allyship.

I am incredibly proud to have the opportunity to highlight the work you do in general practice, and to support you through our work at Londonwide LMCs, in partnership with your Local Medical Committee, to value, care for, and protect GPs and practices. What we’ve achieved together over the past year is genuinely remarkable, and I feel truly privileged to be in my position and working with you all.

The nominations window ran through September and October, with hundreds coming in from across London and I want to thank everyone who took the time to nominate colleagues or themselves, as well as everyone who gave up time to join our judging panel, which was drawn from across London general practice, the wider healthcare system and politics. We would like to thank Londonwide LMCs Buying Group members MIAB for sponsoring this year’s awards event, they share our enthusiasm for seeing the best of London general practice recognised.‎‎

More details are available on the winners, judges, nominees, nominators, along with a selection of photos from the event and sponsors about the importance of recognising the great work going on in general practice across London.

And we are planning to showcase our winners via write-ups on our website and social media channels so please stay tuned!
