Working as a locum GP presents its own unique challenges, despite the flexibility it can afford practitioners. Locums play an essential role in the General practice system, however busy practices do not always have the systems in place to support sessions to run smoothly. Locum GP representation on LMCs is key for highlighting how to support locum working in practices, including navigating and improving local pathways and referral processes. Locum GPs often have unique insights from working across a number of practices in their area or across areas, and can highlight examples of best practice. The flexibility that locum working offers GPs can also mean that they find it easier to attend LMC meetings or represent the LMC at external meetings.
