Participants will be able to demonstrate their understanding of IPC requirements and provide evidence of safe, effective practices that support compliance with CQC standards and inspection expectations.

 

Target audience:Suitable for all primary care staff who are leading or responsible for supporting the IPC leads such as nurses, GPs, Nurse Associates, Health Care Assistants, General Practice Assistants, managers, PCN staff etc.

Aims:By the end of the session, participants will be able to demonstrate their understanding of IPC requirements and provide evidence of safe, effective practices that support compliance with CQC standards and inspection expectations.
Learning outcomes:
  1. Explain the importance of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) in protecting patients, staff, and visitors from healthcare-associated infections.
  2. Describe the key principles of standard infection control precautions, including hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and cleaning standards.
  3. Recognise common routes of infection transmission and apply appropriate control measures to minimise risk.
  4. Implement safe cleaning, decontamination, and waste disposal procedures within the workplace.
  5. Understand responsibilities for reporting and managing infection risks, incidents, and outbreaks.
  6. Apply IPC principles to everyday practice to meet regulatory and organisational requirements, including those assessed during CQC inspections.
  7. Demonstrate confidence in maintaining compliance with IPC standards and contributing to a culture of safety and quality care.
