CQC accepting certain new registrations via email only

  • Latest news

Applications via the provider portal to register as a provider or manager are no longer accepted.

As of Monday 18 November,  only new applications to “cancel provider” and “cancel Registered Manager” are available actions via the portal.

This means that all registration applications must now be submitted by email using the relevant CQC’s Word form. This page is intended to help users decide which form is the correct one for an application.

Alternatively, the CQC helpline 03000 61 61 61 can also offer assistance, which is open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm, excluding bank holidays.

Please note that providers who cannot access the provider portal for whatever reason must use the email process to submit their cancellation applications. Further information on registration changes can be found here.

Statutory notifications

Although there are now registration restrictions via the provider portal, this service is still available for submitting some notifications to the CQC. The notifications that are currently available via the provider portal are:

  • Allegations of abuse (safeguarding)
  • Death of a detained mental health patient
  • Death of a person using the service
  • Events that stop a service running safely and properly
  • Serious injury to a person using the service
  • Outcome of an application to deprive a person of their liberty (DoLS)
  • Police involvement in an incident
  • Unauthorised absence

In addition to the above you should also email the CQC with details of any changes to the following on your registration, as they are statutory notifications, not applications:

Additional information on other types of notifications that the CQC expects to come via email can be found here, click on the links to find more information on what to do and which form to use.

As with applications to cancel registration, providers who, for whatever reason, cannot access the provider portal should submit their notification via email.
