  • Local LMC newsletters

Covering:GP alert forms and more.

Dear colleague,

This is the first in a series of regular newsletters – we’d like to keep you informed about what we are doing for you. The LMC advocates for all GPs in Haringey – partners, salaried GPs, locums and those working in non-traditional GP roles. If you have a difficult work-related issue, our LW LMC GP support team may be able to help – they can be contacted at GPSupport@lmc.org.uk.  You can contact the LMC office by emailing sarah.ocran@lmc.org.uk and the Haringey LMC Chair by email toni.hazell@nhs.net.

Surviving the 2026-27 GP contract – webinar recording

A recording of the first run of Londonwide LMCs’ webinar is now available on the 2026-27 GP contract guidance page for those people who were unable to attend either session.

You can find out about the effect on London of the contract changes, with our unique patient population and commissioning arrangements, based on the documentation available at the end of April.

What has Haringey LMC been working on recently?

GP Alert Form

The GP alert form went live in March – have you submitted one yet?

It allows for feedback, GP alerts and reporting of patient safety issues – the form explains how to choose one of these 3 options. It is embedded in EMIS (search the documents list for ‘alert’) and takes only a minute or two to fill in. This is your opportunity to bounce back all that inappropriate work from secondary care – examples include being asked to request tests (or chase results from tests requested in secondary care), to do referrals which should be done directly or to do fit notes on behalf of secondary care. You can also submit one if A&G advice isn’t clear or doesn’t come quickly/at all, if a trust refuses to take A&G and directs you to consultant connect instead, if there is poor communication or if a patient is inappropriately discharged after a single DNA. Other examples are shown on the form.

You can submit feedback or alerts about secondary, tertiary or community services involved in the care of NCL patients, including providers outside NCL. Options also include the mental health trust, London Ambulance service, DALS, 111 and consultant connect. The process is most established for NCL and other London providers, but out-of-area concerns can be submitted and will be routed to the provider where possible. The alert team will contact you at set times after the alert has been sent to find out if the issue has been resolved and will escalate within the trust, if this hasn’t happened.

570 alerts were sent in the first 5 weeks of the new system; we are already seeing a significant improvement in trust responses. It is only by bouncing back every single example of unresourced work that we will stop it from coming to us in the first place. Some tips on completing the form can be found here and there is an ICB FAQ document here – if you have any problems or questions, please let us know by emailing sarah.ocran@lwlmc.org.uk as they should be easy to resolve.
