What is the LMC and what do we do?
The Local Medical Committee (LMC) works on your behalf to represent the interest of all GPs in Hounslow. We are here for partners, salaried GPs, locums and all practice staff. We also have VTS and practice manager reps on the LMC and are supported by staff from Londonwide LMC. If you have a difficult work-related issue then our GP support team may be able to help – they can be contacted at GPSupport@lmc.org.uk.
New Chair and Vice Chair
I am Dr Kapil Kotecha, the new Chair of the Hounslow LMC and my colleagues Dr Gurcharan Salotera is the new Vice Chair. I was previously the Vice Chair of Hounslow LMC and as this is the first newsletter since the LMC elections I would like to pay tribute to my predecessor, Dr Varendar Winayak. Varendar was the long-term Chair of the Hounslow LMC and worked tireless in that role to support his GP colleagues in Hounslow and advocate for General Practice in general and Hounslow GPs in particular. We wish Varendar a well-deserved retirement after his years of hard work and dedication.
What has Hounslow LMC been working on recently?
With the new term Hounslow LMC is working to establish:

- A ‘Buddy’ system between LMC members and Hounslow practices, this is to increase engagement with our constituents and ensure that Hounslow GPs are aware of the work the LMC does locally and also the support and opportunities that the LMC can provide, whether from GP support or the Londonwide Buying Group. We will be working on developing this system going forward.
- One of the issues that concern so many practices and GPs is the issues relating to the interface between primary and secondary care. I have been working with Dr Amit Gupta, Hounslow Borough Medical Director, as we attend interface meetings at West Middlesex University Hospital. If you have any concerns over interface issues, please let me know -via Ian Oakey’s e mail address in the next bullet point- and I will raise them on your behalf.
- The Hounslow LMC meets regularly with The NWL ICB Borough Team, so if you have any issues you wish to raise -relating to Borough level ICB issues- please let us know. Please e mail ian.oakley@lmc.org.uk
At NWL ICB level:
- NWL/NCL Merger. After the government announced the abolition of NHS England and a further 50% cut to ICB funding, the NWL ICB and NCL ICB decided to merge to form a new 13 Borough ICB, covering 4.5 million residents and called the West and North London ICB. This new ICB will launch in April 2026. The Chair of the ICB will be Mike Bell and the new CEO was supposed to be Francis O’Callaghan, who was the existing CEO of NCL and became joint NWL/NCL CEO in October; however, on the 26th November she announced she was stepping down to take another role and therefore a new CEO will have to be appointed in due course.
- Primary Care Provider Collaborative. With the funding cuts to ICBs a Primary Care Provider Collaborative (PCPC) is being established to give and unified provider voice and manage primary care provision. The PCPC is being set up as Community Interest Company (CIC). The initial funding will be provided by the ICB but longer term the PCPC will have to be self-funding. The LMC continues to seek clarity on the transfer of functions and supporting resources, to ensure that primary care does not lose out.
