Synnovis cyber attack

  • Latest news

NHS England, South East London ICB and Synnovis themselves are the main points for updates. We are working with the ICB to pass on practices' concerns.

Update, 18 December 2024:

Following the cyber ransomware attack over the summer, LMCs in South East London supported by Londonwide LMCs have been working closely with NHS England, SEL ICB and Synnovis themselves to raise general practice concerns about pathology services in South East London.

We wrote formally to SEL ICB in October regarding ongoing safety and quality concerns raised by constituents across South East London and received their formal response in November.
We will continue to liaise with local commissioners regarding service quality concerns and on 17 December we wrote to the CEOs of Guy’s and St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospital on behalf of South East London general practitioners to escalate ongoing and serious concerns about pathology services in SEL.

Strike action due this week by Synnovis employees represented by Unite was cancelled as both parties returned to talks..

Original page content from July:

Following the recent news of a significant ransomware cyberattack on Synnovis, a partnership between two London-based hospital Trusts and SYNLAB, affecting all Synnovis IT systems and resulting in interruptions to pathology services, general practice teams across South East London are endeavouring to manage the impact on patients.

Londonwide LMCs are working closely with the South East London ICB critical response team and Synnovis to ensure that critical and urgent samples from general practices are prioritised, and to secure and support arrangements for mutual aid from other areas to enable investigations for medical care and referrals.

Current predictions are that disruption to blood testing services may continue for a number of months, and we are aware that all GPs across South East London are affected and many are concerned about the potential for patient harm that can result from delayed or missing blood test results. We will continue to work to advocate that patients and their families are kept informed of the measures put in place to minimise the impact of this cynical attack on patient care.
