Who is the CQC?

The Clinical Quality Commission (CQC) is an independent body that regulates health and social care. We should have all had some dealings with them at some point as all providers, GMS, PMS and APMS contract holders should now all be registered with the CQC.

What do they do?

They monitor, inspect, and regulate service to ensure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety.

Registration

Service providers, providing any regulated activity must register with the CQC.  This can be an individual, a partnership or an organisation.

Regulated Activities

The list of regulated activities regulated by the CQC are listed in Schedule 1 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

Inspections

The CQC will inspect service providers to see if they are operating safe, effective, caring, responsive, and they are well led among six populations groups. These groups are; older people, people with long term conditions, families, children and young people, vulnerable people and people experiencing mental health issues.
