Being a GP partner has become an increasingly difficult role in recent years, with growing demands on partners to focus on performance measures and business acumen. Our guide covers what you should consider when deciding whether partnership as a role is right for you and/or whether to join a specific GP partnership.
A key objective of Londonwide LMCs is to help stabilise and maintain the sustainability of our practices, including supporting the independent contractor model. We have responded by increasing our provision of tailored training in business, finance and relevant regulations and have also introduced a new Aspiring to Partnership Programme aimed at new and aspiring GP partners. Modules on the course include GP regulation and NHSE, practice finances, premises, partnership agreements and team leadership and HR. Further details are available on our Events and Training pages.
Londonwide LMCs specialist GP Support team is available to provide advice and guidance to GP partners on a wide variety of practice and practitioner issues. These include, but are not limited to, individual GP support with NHSE performance investigations, partnership disputes, succession planning, premises problems, CQC inspections and breach/contractual actions. Please note we are generally not able to provide advice on employment/ HR issues but can signpost to relevant organisations where appropriate. We also work with associate providers, who can provide services such as legal advice and IG support.
We produce regularly updated guidance to support GP partners in understanding their contractual requirements, enabling them to safely and appropriately fulfil their contractual obligations as well as the ability to decline non-contractual work, where appropriate.
Londonwide LMCs support the borough LMCs in their local contract negotiations with the ICBs/commissioners. This includes reviewing proposed service specifications from a clinical, financial and contractual viewpoint, negotiating with commissioners on the behalf of practices to make sure that services are safe and deliverable withing the proposed financial envelope. If you are interested in getting involved in your local LMC, please contact the relevant Committee Liaison Executive for further information.
Help us to help you: ensure that your contact details with Londonwide LMCs are correct so that you can receive up to date information and newsletters to ensure you can make the most of the support available to you. This can be done through our website or contacting brt@lmc.org.uk.
