Dear colleague,

The Local Medical Committee (LMC) works on your behalf to represent the interest of all GPs in Enfield. We are here for partners, salaried GPs, locums and all practice staff.

What has Enfield LMC been working on recently?

Primary/Secondary Care interface
After much work by NCL LMCs and the ICB, the NCL primary/secondary care consensus document was launched in January 2024. The overriding principles in that document is that everyone involved in patient care should do their own work. How Can you Help? If these principles are to become established, please pass back any inappropriate work you are asked to carry out on behalf of secondary back to the requesting clinician, (referencing the consensus document), rather than doing it yourself. Our LMC members also attend the clinical interface meetings at the Royal Free and North Middlesex Hospitals, so If you have any interface issues relating to these trusts, please let us know by contacting sarah.ocran@lmc.org.uk so we can raise these issues on your behalf.

Sexual Health services in Enfield
We wrote to Enfield Council (Public Health) to express our dismay at the planned closure of Enfield’s sexual health clinic and called on the council to revisit this decision, based on the facts that this will worsen the health of Enfield residents.

Pathway Reviews
Our LMC members have provided critical input on various clinical pathway reviews to help GPs provide the best possible service to their patients.

Enfield LMC motion for UK LMC Conference 2025
The motion requested for a change to the Conference Standing Orders, so that the allocation of seats to LMC Conferences reflects the patient population covered by the LMC, rather than GP headcount. As an LMC, we felt strongly that the current method of allocation of seats, unintentionally disenfranchises those LMCs in under-doctored areas, such as Enfield.

At NCL ICB level:

Protected Learning Time (PLT) – We lobbied (alongside the Chairs of our LMCs in NCL and our LW LMC colleagues) the ICB to ensure that funded PLT can be held at NCL practices, PCNs and at place level.

Locally Commissioned Services (LCSs) -We have been involved in work which has resulted in a recurrent uplift of 7.2% for all NCL Locally Commissioned Services (excluding the Long-Term Condition (LTC LCS) which will be back-dated to all LCSs from last year.

Role of UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) – Raising our concerns with the ICB that UKHSA did not provide any support to an Enfield practice during the measles outbreak in Enfield. The ICB agreed to follow this up with the Enfield Public Health team.

Long Term Conditions Locally Commissioned Services (LTCs LCSs), PMS funding for Enfield practices – Raising practice concerns about the implementation of LTCs LCSs and ensuring that PMS funding is retained for Enfield practices.

Our Current Priorities
Looking ahead our focus remains firmly on issues that matter most to Enfield GPs. These include, securing sustainable funding for practices through LCSs and PMS Premiums, enhancing the interface between primary and secondary care, including Mental Health and being part of any discussions/decisions on Integrated Neighourhood Teams in Enfield. Engagement with our local GPs, PCN Clinical Directors, and our borough GP Provider Alliance (GPPA) representatives is also our priority, to ensure your voices are heard and acted upon.

We will be sending you regular newsletters to keep you updated on our work.

2025 LMC elections – nominate yourself now

This spring is your opportunity to stand for Enfield LMC. Please watch our short animation explaining why should you stand for your local medical committee, which is part of our regularly updated elections page. You can also share the animation and a short message via WhatsApp.

If you would like to find out more about being a member we are running two lunchtime awareness sessions on either Wednesday 7 or 21 May 2025 you can register for these via lmc-elections@lmc.org.uk.

Dr Lisa Harrod-Rothwell, CEO, Londonwide LMCs says: “If you are the type of person who likes things to change when they are broken, if you don’t accept people saying “that’s just the way it is, we have to live with it”, and you want to make a difference to your colleagues and your patients, please stand for your LMC. You can raise and resolve all sorts of issues such as interface and pathways that are impacting on your ability to do your job.”

Nomination packs were sent out via email on Monday 28 April. If you do not receive regular emails from us, think your details need updating, or you know of any GPs who may not be receiving our updates, whether they are a partner, employed, locum, new entrant or a trainee GP, contact us on lmc-elections@lmc.org.uk.
