Dear colleague,
Your Local Medical Committee (LMC) works on your behalf to represent the interest of all GPs in Islington. We are here for partners, salaried GPs, locums and all practice staff.
Islington LMC Membership and Contact info
What has Islington LMC been working on recently?
Primary/secondary care interface
Attending the Clinical Interface meetings at UCLH (Dr Grant-Arrowsmith) and Whittington hospital (Dr Karen Summerfield) to challenge un-resourced workload shift from secondary care, and to also improve working in an integrated way with our secondary care colleagues. If you have any interface issues relating to UCLH and the Whittington Hospital, please let us know by contacting [email protected] so we can raise these issues on your behalf.
Mental health clinical interface group
Attending regular meetings with NCL LMC Chairs and mental health providers, to discuss and address the issues that NCL GPs are facing with accessing mental health services for their patients. I (Dr Emily Grant-Arrowsmith) attended the recent single point of access pilot for community mental health which started in Barnet on 1 April. To learn more about this initiative please visit here.
Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC), Locally Commissioned Services (LCSs) in Islington
Worked alongside Islington public health to undertake a comprehensive review which has resulted in significant increased payments for LARC 25-26 and with back pay to April 25 (payment details ) does everyone know?
Engagement with our local GPs and local ICB
Attending the Islington GP Forum and PCN CD meetings to hear about the challenges local GPs are facing on the ground and to feed that information back to inform the LMC’s work/priorities. We also attend the Borough Primary Care Transformation Steering Group and Islington Borough Partnership Meetings, to ensure the LMC voice is heard and considered, particularly in relation to current discussions and decisions regarding Integrated Neighbourhood Teams (INTs).
Engaging with our local MPs to discuss local and national issues of concern to Islington practices
We (including an Islington Practice Manager) met recently with Jeremy Corbyn MP. The discussions focused on practice funding, particularly the impact of the employer’s NI increase on general practice, and estates issues relating to local practices which need to develop or move.
At NCL ICB level:
Protected learning time (PLT) – We lobbied (alongside the Chairs of our LMCs in NCL and our LW LMC colleagues) the ICB to ensure that funded PLT can be held at NCL practices, PCNs and at place level.
Locally Commissioned Services (LCSs) – We have been involved in work which has resulted in a recurrent uplift of 7.2% for all NCL Locally Commissioned Services (excluding the Long-Term Condition (LTC LCS) which will be back-dated to all LCSs from last year.
Primary/secondary care interface concerns – We wrote a letter to the ICB (alongside the Chairs of the NCL LMCs) to express our continuing concerns about inappropriate and un-resourced workload transfer from secondary to general practice. We requested that the ICB ensure that trusts implement actions within the NCL Consensus document and strengthen the quality alert system, or put in place meaningful measures to highlight patient safety issues arising from trust actions.

Dr Lisa Harrod-Rothwell, CEO, Londonwide LMCs says: “If you are the type of person who likes things to change when they are broken, if you don’t accept people saying “that’s just the way it is, we have to live with it”, and you want to make a difference to your colleagues and your patients, please stand for your LMC. You can raise and resolve all sorts of issues such as interface and pathways that are impacting on your ability to do your job.”
Nomination packs were sent out via email on Monday 28 April.
